Father Baker's, or more formally Our Lady of Victory Basilica, is probably Western New York's most well known church. If you haven't been to visit the Basilica recently. please make a point to see this treasure. And while you are in the neighborhood stop in to see Buffalo's Botanical Gardens.

We are all aware that Father Baker's has its roots in an orphange but I was surprised to find out what led to its creation. In 1849, traffic from the Erie Canal introduced a devestating cholera epidemic. Of the three thousand who were infected, 900 died, leaving a large number of new orphans.
