On July 14th 1907, two thousand Hungarians from all around Western New York witnessed the dedication of the first Hungarian Church in Western New York. A Pontifical high mass was celebrated by Bishop Colton of Buffalo, with attendence by priests from St. Louis, St. Francis, St. John the Baptist, Assumption and Corpus Christi churches. Also in attendence and giving the sermon in Hungarian was the Rev. Stephen Csernicsky from Cleveland. |
| The
text of the cornerstone-document includes this aspiration "Our
celestial patroness, Saint Elizabeth, as long as there remains a single
stone of this Church, will pray for us."
The Rev. Charles Böhm founder of many of Americas Magyar Churches was the pastor of St. Elizabeth's from 1916 to 1923. |
