St. Bartholomew's
The stone walls of St. Bartholomew's have a bit of their own history. In 1930, Buffalo was removing cobblestones from our
streets and replacing them with modern asphalt. The walls of this church are made from
those cobblestones.

St. Bartholomew's is on Grider Street across from Erie County Medical Center. It is currently idle since St. Martin de Porres has moved into their new church on Northhampton Street. It's namesake, St. Bartholomew was one of the first Christian Martyrs.

This photograph taken in 1945, shows the churchyard and Shrine to the Crucifixion. Hand carved in Japan, the shrine was a gift from Father Murrett whose niece Mary Ellen McGuire attended school at St. Bart's. Father Murrett was a missionary in Japan prior to WWII. |

| The Crucifix still stands in the churchyard against the rectory wall, in what is now known as Peace Park. The park is dedicated to the memory of Father Joseph Bisionette. The rectory is now home of Hope House, a temporary residence for released prisoners. |
