St. Casimir Roman Catholic Church

Cable and Casimir Streets, Buffalo New York

St. Casimir's is nestled in Buffalo's Kaisertown's neighborhood, from Clinton St. turn south onto Cabel Street and you will soon come upon Buffalos' finest display of Byzantine Architecture.  It's ornate dome and terra cotta figures make this church especially worth a visit.

If you are familiar with Tom Dudzick's popular Over the Tavern trilogy of plays you will recall numerous references to St. Casimir's.  Indeed the series last play is titled, The Last Mass at St. Casimir's.    As Mark Twain would say the title "is an  exaggeration" as St. Casimir's is very much alive and well.

The inspiration for this church is Sancta Sophia in Istanbul, Turkey. Sancta Sophia or Hagia Sophia has a fascinating history and is the most significant surviving example of original Byzantine architecture.
