St. Stephen's

Shrine of Saint Jude Roman Catholic Church

193 Elk Street, Buffalo New York

The parish school next to the church was built in 1893.

This South Buffalo Church grew out of St. Brigid's  parish in 1875.   In 1878 a small brick church was built and a few years later the current church was built around the original building.  Today St. Stephen's is dedicated as a Shrine to Saint Jude.

The NY Erie Genealogy web site has histories of several Roman Catholic Churches,  including this one for St. Stephens.

While taking pictures of this church a young man stopped and talked with me about the church.  He mentioned that he had moved away for a while and he missed not hearing the chimes of this church which ring on the quarter hour.
