Zoar Reformed Church

Genesee and Rohr Streets
now home to Saints Tabernacle COGIC

When I first saw this white church on Genesee street, I was reminded of a Vermont country church.  Indeed, in 1906 when this church was built, Genesee and Rohr streets were in the country. The Rev. William Bollmann and a congregation of forty Germans established Zoar Reformed in 1895.  Their first services were held in a store on Genesee street.

Here is a link to a short biography of Rev. Bollman. The biography is from 'Buffalo and Its German Community, Illustrated' produced by the  German - American Historical and Biographical Society in  1912.  The book is in German, so scroll down for the English translation.  Special thanks to Susan Kriegbaum-Hanks who is translating this and other German Language books about Buffalo.  Her web site is called Archivaria.

In 1968, this church was purchased by Loguen Memorial AME Zion church and this year the church was  newly acquired by Saints Tabernacle COGIC.
